Biography

Ross Campbell became an associate attorney in SMITH | ROBINSON law firm’s Sumter office in August 2025, but he already had considerable experience with the firm before that. He worked with the firm as both an intern and then a clerk during law school. He also worked part-time as a law clerk in the Office of the Speaker of the House for co-founding member Murrell Smith, who also serves as speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

The Sumter native graduated from Thomas Sumter Academy before attending Wofford College, where he double majored in Government and Humanities with a minor in Business and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2021. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2024.

During law school Ross also gained experience as a research assistant for Professor Black in the Constitutional Law Center and externed for Chief Judge Williams at the Court of Appeals. After completing his law studies, he clerked in Sumter for At-Large Circuit Court Judge R. Kirk Griffin. He observed a variety of civil and criminal proceedings and trials during his clerkship while Judge Griffin was the Chief Administrative Judge of Common Pleas and General Sessions.

He’s made law his profession to serve and better his hometown and community, partly inspired by his father’s work as a court official in Sumter. “I’ve been around the court system most of my life,” says Ross, “and that’s what got me interested in pursuing law.”

He has many interests beside the law. He enjoys reading historical and political nonfiction, flyfishing, following Gamecock and Wofford sports, and spending time with his fiancée.
