Fred Hanna

Fred Hanna is an associate attorney at Smith Robinson focusing his practice on complex litigation and appellate practice.

Fred is a former judicial law clerk for the Honorable George C. James Jr., an Associate Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.  In this capacity, Fred assisted Court Justices with drafting and spading opinions, drafting bench memoranda, and reviewing appellate briefs.

Fred earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in law school, Fred served as the Students Works Editor of the South Carolina Law Review and he received the CALI Awards for Appellate Advocacy, Coastal Law, Legal Writing for the Courts, Legal Research, Analysis and Writing II, and Topics in Insurance Law.  Fred is a Member of the Order of the Coif and Order of the Wig and Robe. He served as a law clerk to the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee where he assisted committee members by drafting preliminary versions of bills and amendments, and also served the Judicial Merit Selection Commission.

Prior to law school, Fred graduated from Clemson University, Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude, with a minor in Philosophy.
