Ross Campbell joins Sumter office of SMITH | ROBINSON law firm

Attorney Ross Campbell is joining the Sumter office of SMITH | ROBINSON law firm as an associate.

He started on Aug. 6, and plans at this point to practice in the areas of Tort Claims Act litigation, medical malpractice, insurance defense and general litigation.

He is originally from Sumter and attended Wofford College, where he double majored in Government and Humanities with a minor in Business and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2021. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2024.

Ross is already very familiar with SMITH | ROBINSON, having worked with the firm as both an intern and then a clerk during law school. As a law student, he also worked part-time as a law clerk in the Office of the Speaker of the House for SMITH | ROBINSON co-founding member Murrell Smith, who is also speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

During law school Ross also gained experience as a research assistant for Professor Black in the Constitutional Law Center and externed for Chief Judge Williams at the Court of Appeals. After law school, he clerked in Sumter for At-Large Circuit Court Judge R. Kirk Griffin, who served as Chief Administrative Judge of both Common Pleas and General Sessions.

Ross wants his work in the law profession to serve and better his hometown and community, partly inspired by his father, Sumter County Clerk of Court James Campbell. “I’ve been around the court system most of my life,” says Ross, “and that’s what got me interested in pursuing law.”

He has many interests beside the law. He enjoys reading historical and political nonfiction, flyfishing, following Gamecock and Wofford sports, and spending time with his fiancée.
