USC Law School gives alumnus Jon Robinson Gold Compleat Lawyer Award

Jonathan M. Robinson, the managing member of SMITH | ROBINSON law firm, is to be honored with the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law’s Gold Compleat Lawyer Award.

He will receive the recognition on April 10 at the law school’s annual Compleat Lawyer dinner, at the South Carolina State Museum.

The Compleat Lawyer Awards, established in 1992, are given each year to nine alumni from the law school. There are three categories, based on years in practice, with the Gold Medallion going to attorneys who have practiced 16 to 30 years and have exhibited outstanding civic and professional accomplishments while demonstrating the highest standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity.

The selection committee for the award consists of leaders from the highest level of the legal profession in South Carolina, including the chief justices of both the S.C. Supreme Court and S.C. Court of Appeals, the president of the state Bar, the president of the Law School Alumni Council, the president of the Young Alumni Council, and the dean of the USC School of Law.

Jon Robinson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1997 and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable L. Henry McKellar, South Carolina Circuit Court Judge. He has been in private practice since 2001.

He practices in the areas of commercial litigation, insurance coverage issues and local counsel services. He has represented clients in South Carolina state and federal courts and successfully tried numerous cases to jury verdicts. He is also an active member of the community and serves in a number of leadership positions.

He has been president of the Kershaw County Bar Association and chair of the South Carolina Commission on National and Community Service. He currently serves on the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates, the University of South Carolina Board of Visitors, and the Central Carolina Community Foundation Board. He is a member of the Kershaw and Richland County Bar Associations, Electric Cooperative Bar Association, and the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
